Building link campaigns for your website is imperative if you want your site to rank well on the search engines and maximize your exposure. Link campaigns make sure that people from all over the World Wide Web can find your website. It also indicates to the search engines that your site is something of an Authority site … but only if all of those links pointing back to your site are from other websites that are relevant to what your subject matter is.  Luckily Cutting Edge Website Solutions provide link building services to help with this.

There are numerous locations on the web for you to post links back to your site and many of these are high-ranking sites simply because of the amount of traffic they get on a daily basis. There are still some major issues here that you should be aware of if you want to have a truly successful link building campaign for your website. Unlike Hollywood, when it comes to the World Wide Web, not all publicity is good publicity.

The first thing that many people think about when starting a link building campaign is the page rank of the place where they will be placing their link. If you dig a little deeper however, you will soon discover that there is far more bad than there is good if that is the only factor that you are taking into consideration. The worst cases usually involve people posting links on FFA or Free For All websites. That PR9 link coming back to your website may look great at first but is it?

The reason that FFA page is a PR9 is because it has literally thousands or maybe even tens of thousands people going to visit it every day. That would be good in most cases … except … except that the major portion of those people going to that site are going there solely to post links back to their websites as well and not to click on links that are already posted there. Many of the search engines will actually penalize your website for having links from the FFA pages.

The reason that they do this is because not all of the links are relevant and they know that when that page has millions of outbound links with precious little content, it could be nothing other than a simple Link Farm. For that backlink to do your website any good, it has to be on a page that is related to the content on your website and if it is not, not only are you wasting time or money, but you may also be doing more harm to your website than you will be accomplishing anything good.

So now that you know that, you know that all you have to do is simply find a bunch of websites that are relevant to yours and post a few more links there right? Except … and there is always an exception isn’t there? Except that for one thing, many of those similar sites are going to belong to your competitors and they have no viable reason to help you increase your website to a higher place than their website occupies. It is nothing personal; it is like someone coming in to your store and you sending them to your competitor’s store to purchase a product that you already stock. It just does not make any sense.

Furthermore, many of the sites like forums and blogs where you can post an active link back to your site are also convoluted with codes, scripts and other means of communicating with the search engines that may again make all of your efforts fruitless if you do not know what you are doing. The most commonly overlooked factor here is whether or not the website where you hope to post a link has the DOFOLLOW or NOFOLLOW tag in place in the robots.txt file. This simple snippet of text actually tells the search engines whether or not to follow the links that you place when you’re building a link campaign for your site.

While there are certainly more issues, building link campaigns is not just a matter of telling everyone already on the Internet that you have a website. Building link campaigns effectively requires you to do some research, find out some facts and then work towards goals that are beneficial without wasting your time for nothing or even worse, for hurting your site by building an ineffective link campaign.
